The Penguin Book Truck

Classic, new and bestselling adult and children’s books will be for sale when Penguin’s bright orange truck makes a special stop at the library. Shop the truck and a portion of the sales will benefit the library. The first 100 people to purchase a book will receive a free “bundtini” cake from Nothing Bundt Cake’s Bundt Mobile. Kids can enjoy a penguin-themed craft and snack! Authors Rebecca Makkai and Renee Rosen will be at the truck at 1 p.m. and Margaret Hawkins will appear at 2 p.m.

Bully documentary-- edited for younger audiences

For ages 10 and up ADULT ATTENDEES PLEASE REGISTER AS age 21
In the face of increased public discussion , this documentary looks at how bullying affects today’s kids. This version focuses on Alex, a 12-year-old Iowan with social difficulties who becomes awkward around other kids. Bilingual Counselor, Florencia Avalos-Delcid, MSW, of Family Service will be available to facilitate a discussion after the film. Family Service is a community organization committed to providing needed services and counseling.

Halloween Railroad

The railroad is back by popular demand! Come for this special run as The North Central 'O' Gaugers Rairoad Club sends model trains through Spookytown. Great for Halloween and great for model train enthusiasts. Some visitors will even be able to "drive a train" and earn their "NCOG Honorary Jr. Operating Engineer" certificate. There will also be a special Thomas the Tank Engine track. Stop by anytime.

Fall Baby Booktime

Newborns to walkers with parent or caregiver.
Introduce your baby to the sounds and rhythms of language using stories, music, and rhymes. Delight and stimulate your baby's senses and build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. Each class will end with 1/2 hour of play featuring age-appropriate toys and time for socialization.

Fall First Steps

For walking toddlers to 2 year olds with parent or caregiver.
Enjoy an interactive storytime with picture books, songs, fingerplays, puppets, and parachute play. Nurture your toddler's love of books and encourage him or her to learn numbers, colors, sounds, and new words. Each class will end with 1/2 hour of play and time to meet other parents, caregivers, and toddlers.
