U.S. History

America's Story
From the Library of Congress, this site puts the "story" back in history.  It is a collection of letters, diaries, records and tapes, films maps, photographs, and other primary sources from American history.

American Memory: Historical Collections for the National Digital Library
This expansive archive of American history and culture features photographs, prints, motion pictures, manuscripts, maps, and sound recordings going back to roughly 1490.  Visitors can search collections separately or all at once by keyword and type of source (photos and prints, documents, films, sound recordings, or maps).

National Museum of American History
One of the many Smithsonian museums, this site has great virtual exhibitions and a timeline of American history.

National Park Service History Page
Information on American history by themes & concepts with more great virtual exhibitions.  Check out the Ask a Question/Contact page where you can send email to Park Service employees who are experts on a variety of topics in American history.

Making of America
This site is a "digital library" of thousands of primary documents in American social history from the Antebellum period through Reconstruction brought to us by the University of Michigan and Cornell University.
