At this time, NetLibrary eAudiobooks cannot be played on Macs or Ipods:
NetLibrary audiobooks cannot be played on Macs because the latest version of Window Media Player available for Macs (version 9) does not contain the high level of security required by the publisher (Recorded Books). Because the latest version of Windows Media Player for Macs does not support 2.x licenses, if you attempt to download an eAudiobook to a Mac, you will get a "file not found" message.
NetLibrary audiobooks cannot be played on iPods because the iPod does not currently support copyright-protected Windows Media Audio (.wma) files. iPods play .acc files and utilize a copy-protection scheme called "FairPlay". Apple has not allowed NetLibrary to license the use of FairPlay and FairPlay does not currently support a mechanism for "returning" the audiobooks.
It was not our intention to exclude iPods from our eAudiobooks program. Unfortunately, there is no eAudiobook subscription service currently available to libraries that supports the iPod. We encourage our patrons to contact Apple and request that they open the iPod to other digital rights management formats or license their proprietary copy-protection method to third-party vendors, like NetLibrary. The IPod feedback group may be reached at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
The Recorded Books license agreement does not allowing the burning of CDs. You will be able to make a CD but it will not be playable.
Check the following:
Are you using a PC? NetLibrary eAudiobooks do not work with Macs. (see above.)
If you get a "file not found" error, and you are not using a Mac, this indicates that the system doesn't recognize that you should have access to this file. Verify what library is displaying in the "Your Library" section of your NetLibrary account. It should properly say "HIGHLAND PARK PUBLIC LIBRARY (and display a logo for North Suburban Library System)". If it says anything else then it's an affiliation problem and either you need to create a new account affiliated with this library or you contact NetLibrary support so they may manually change their account affiliation to your library.
If you get a "This link is no longer valid..." error:
Your computer's date/time clock settings must match the actual time zone, be set for the correct time of day, and must be as exact as possible. If the settings are off, DRM won't allow the download.
Follow these steps to resolve the problem:
a. Close any Internet Explorer windows that are open.
b. Open Control Panel (click Start, Settings, and Control Panel) and click on the Date/Time icon to change the clock.
c. Confirm that the date is set for the correct day of the week.
d. Confirm that the clock is set to the correct hour and minute (don't worry about seconds).
e. Also, confirm that it accurately reflects AM or PM depending on the time of day.
f. Lastly, check the time zone setting and verify it is correctly set to your time zone.
After all the clock settings have been adjusted, start Internet Explorer (or other browser), log in to NetLibrary and try to download an eAudiobook. You should now be able to download the eAudiobook successfully. If you still get the error and you are accessing NetLibrary through our catalog, go to http://www.netlibrary.com and access it directly.

Do you have Windows Media Player version 9 or 10 installed?
If you have an older Windows Media Player version the download appears to be working. Windows Media Player shows "acquiring license," but eventually you get a message that you don't have a license to play the audiobook. You need to download a newer version of Windows Media Player
If you try to open the audiobook in Real Player first and then attempt to use Windows Media Player, you will get a message that the license cannot be downloaded because you have already put it on another computer. You will need to download the book again if you get this message.
Then, try again, but first clear your cache.
In Internet Explorer, from the tools drop down menu, click on Internet Options
Click on the delete files button in the middle of that menu
Check the delete all offline content checkbox and click OK
It will take a minute or two for the hourglass to delete all of the files.
If none of the above actions will allow you to successfully download an eaudiobook, you can test a Microsoft-based link that downloads a .wma file. This link can be found at http://wmtap.smdisp.net/janus/download.asp?CaseID=9TC1&Content=9TC1_128_44_16_2_CBR.wma.. If you can download this link, and you see a license-acquisition screen appear, the problem is not with your computer but with NetLibrary. Please contact us in this case. If you cannot download this file then .wma-protected content cannot be currently handled on your PC. Contact you PC support for more information.
We do not recommend using a Library computer. Download times can vary greatly and you might run out of computer time before the audiobook has finished the download. You would then have to start over.
The license will download to the Library computer and you will not be able to renew the Audiobook.
