what are databases | access problems
Collections of accurate and authoritative reference information created by publishing companies specifically for reference and research.
They contain content from published sources that is indexed and packaged in a searchable format.
This searchable and verified information is not readily found on the open Internet.
Our Library purchases these subscription databases, which are then available free to patrons and the community.

Use the subject categories at the top of the databases page or
A Librarian will be happy to point you to the correct database for your research needs.
If you are having trouble logging into a remote database from home or work, please check the following:
Confirm that the database is a 24-hour resource.
Confirm that you are using a valid Highland Park Public Library card and are entering the 13 digit number correctly.
Confirm that you cannot get to ANY database on the list. If you can get to some, and not others, please contact the Library for further information.
If you still cannot access any databases, you may be having a firewall problem. Some firewalls, especially corporate firewalls, have security levels that will not allow access. To check for a firewall problem, try accessing the following URLs:
http://ezproxy.yourlib.org:2048/ip?test1
http://ezproxy.yourlib.org/ip?test2
You should see a page indicating the IP address from which you are connecting. If the first URL does not give you this information, but the second succeeds, a firewall is probably the problem. The proxy server that verifies your Library card number uses ports 2048 - 2248 and you will need to open all of these ports on your firewall settings to insure connection to the database.
If neither of the above URLs results in your seeing an IP address confirmation, please contact the Library.
