Intro to Photoshop Elements 2018

Give your photographs a creative twist with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2018. This class will teach you the essentials of Adobe Photoshop Elements, a user -friendly photo editor and image organizer. We will cover toolbar options, basic and advanced image editing techniques, special features such as Instant Fix and Guided Edits, and tips for tagging and managing your photographs.

Intermediate computer skills required. Windows 10 laptop with Adobe Elements 2018 will be available for in-class use.

Learn Brush Calligraphy

Learn how to write calligraphy with brush pens!  Beginners are welcome as we learn how to write basic strokes and the lowercase alphabet.  Experiment with color and blending as we try out different blending techniques and tools.  By the end of the course, participants will be able to create an inspiring, motivational poster.

Beginning Italian

This class is designed for beginning students and taught by a native speaker.  Learn the Italian alphabet, vocabulary, greetings and simple sentence structure along with basic grammar and pronunciaation.  The class will include exposure to Italian culture.

Simone Bloom immigrated to the states from South Africa 18 years ago.  She has been playing and teaching Canasta for 17 years.

Trudy Cooper -- Learn Canasta Strategy, Learn to Play Canasta

Trudy Cooper graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Psychology.  She has a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Northeastern University and a degree in Administration from Loyola University.  She was an Elementary teacher and Reading Specialist.  She then became a case manager for the Chicago Public Schools.  She was on the adjunct staff at National Louis University.  She also ran her own interior design business.  Trudy has taught over 100 people to play canasta.


Jennifer Dotson – Creative Writing, Memoir Writing, Poetry Writing

Jennifer Dotson served as the creative writing and memoir instructor for District Township 113 Continuing Education for the past eight years.  She earned her BA in English Literature and Theatre Arts from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, an MFA in Drama from the University of Virginia, and studied in the graduate fiction writing program at Chicago Columbia College.  She is the Founder and Program Director of www.HighlandParkPoetry.org.  Her poetry appears in After Hours, East On Central, Exact Change and other journals and anthologies.  Clever Gretel, her poetry collection received the first Journal of Modern poetry Book Award and was published in 2013 by Chicago Poetry Press.


Judy Friedman -- Grammantics

Judy is an adjunct instructor at DePaul University, where she teaches the College of Communication's core writing course.  In 2010, she was honored as a Women of Spirit & Action and was nominated for an Excellence in Teaching award.  As a freelance copywriter, Judy has been widely published in Better Homes and Gardens magazine and book publications (among others), in addition to Highland Park's own East on Central annual literary journal.  She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in advertising from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  


Audrey Ko -- Learn Brush Calligraphy, Learn Pointed Pen Calligraphy

Audrey Ko is the owner of Things Unseen Designs, a small local business dedicated to calligraphy and watercolor services. She comes from a background of creative people and is motivated to help others unleash their creative selves. Audrey teaches online through Skillshare as well as in-person workshops. Altogether, she has taught more than 4,500 students since September 2017. Join Audrey and explore the world of modern calligraphy together!


Dave Mischler --  Introduction to Square Dancing

Dave Mischler is an avid square dancer and instructor.  He is a founding member of the North Shore Squares, a dance club with over 50 members.  Currently serving on the board of the organization, he has been instrumental in guiding the success of the club and building its membership.

Silvia Rota -- Beginning Italian

Silvia moved to the United States from Italy with her family in 2003, where she practiced law.  She received a Master's in Law at Loyola University and also practiced law in Chicago.  Sylvia now dedicates herself to volunteering for local nonprofit organizations and the PTO.  She loves to share her native Italian language with others who want to learn and practice it.


Irwin Silbernik -- Intro to Guitar

Irwin Silbernik received his BS in Music Education from the University of Illinois in 1974, and his Master’s degree in 1975.  Irwin ran music programs for a small town in western Illinois.  He then founded the Silbernik Music Acadamy in Highland Park, IL and is now utilizing his educational and performance experience to teach guitar to all skill levels.
