Highland Park residents can receive deliveries of books, audiobooks, and CDs. Materials are delivered to Highland Park Public Library cardholders every other Tuesday, and picked up in two weeks’ time. The service is available to those who are unable to visit the Library due to age, illness, or temporary or permanent disability.
Upon qualifying for the program, you will be mailed an application and stamped return envelope. You can choose exactly what you would like to receive by placing holds with Information and Readers' Services librarians by phone (847-681-7031) or online (hppla@hplibrary.org). When they are available, the materials will be checked out by library staff to your library card.
A delivery staff member will then deliver the materials right to your door and collect materials to return to the library on your behalf. Materials may be left in a sheltered area if available or you may interact directly with the delivery staff person according to your preferences. Deliveries are made once every two weeks on Tuesday between 11am and 12pm. If you do not wish to receive a delivery on a given date, we ask that you call the library no later than the Friday before the delivery date to inform staff.
Home Library Delivery is designed for Highland Park Public Library cardholders who live independently but are unable to drive due to a physical disability; and who do not have a full- or part-time caregiver or family member available to pick up materials on their behalf. We do deliver to assisted living and nursing homes as long as the patron meets the above requirements.
A staff member will work with you to determine if you qualify for the program, then we will mail you the forms to get started. After we receive your completed application, you will be contacted with the date of your first delivery.
