What To Expect
Your first login will look a little different, and you'll need to complete a quick one-time registration to create your new account. Please note, your checkouts, holds, and account information will all come with you.
How Set Up Your Account
- Go to hplibrary.bibliocommons.com and click on the Log In/My Account on the top right of any page.
- Click on Log In/Register.
- Enter your library card number/barcode (13-digit number) on the back of your library card and your existing password/PIN. If you don’t know your PIN, contact the Library at 847-432-0216.
- Then click on Continue to Account Setup.
- Verify your account information, make any changes needed, and click Continue.

Create Your New Username: You'll create a unique username using letters and numbers. Your username cannot be your library card number.
Username already taken? Don’t worry, you’ll be able to choose another one, or use one of the suggested usernames. (Some usernames may not be available; all usernames are part of the larger library catalog system). - Accept the Terms and Conditions, then click Complete Account Setup.
Once complete, you can begin exploring and using the new catalog!
When you next log in, you can log in using your username OR your library card number. It's up to you!
Any Young Readers (under age 13) in Your Household?
To comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), children under age 13 will receive an auto-generated username based on the color and animal they choose.
Once they turn 13, they can change the username to one of their choice.
Additional Account Features
Your account remains private by default.
Borrowing history, checked out items, and holds are never shared unless you choose to use optional community recommendation features.
Want to opt out of Community Recommendations?
Set your privacy and sharing setting: The new catalog includes optional social features that let you rate, review, and share your favorite titles with other users. If you prefer, you can keep your activity completely private by following these steps:
- Log in to your account.
- Click your username in the upper right corner.
- Click My Settings from the drown-down menu.
- Under the Privacy section in the left-hand menu, select My Shelves.
- For My Shelves privacy, check the box next to the shelves you want to keep private.
- For Select My Feed privacy, check the box next to “Mark your activity feed as private.”
- Click Save Changes.
Import Your Lists
Have you saved items to a list in the classic catalog? Use the “Import List Items” button on the My Shelves page (under My Collections in the drop-down menu on the right side).
Keep Your Borrowing History
If you like keeping a log of what you’ve read, you can turn on "Keep my Borrowing History" in your new account settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
I already have a username I use to log into the classic catalog. Can I use that username to log into the new catalog?
No. Your old username will not work in the new catalog. You'll need to set up a new username and password when logging in to the new catalog for the first time.
Why do I need a new username?
Your username will be used for some of the new catalog features, including lists and community features like ratings and reviews. If you choose to use these features, your username will be public, but your library card number will be private.
Can I still log in with my library card number?
Yes. Once your new username is set up, you can log in with your library card number if you prefer.
Will my holds and checked out items transfer?
Yes. Your account information, checkouts, and holds will all be available in the new catalog.
Will I still be able to log in to the old catalog?
Yes, you'll still be able to access the old or classic catalog through the end of the year. Account information and activity like checkouts and holds will remain synched between both interfaces.
However, if you create lists and save items to them in the new catalog, they will not be available in the classic catalog.
Can I change my username or password?
Yes. You can change either one at any time by going to Log In/Register and then My Settings (bottom of menu options).
